What I Really Do.

Came across this article and had to share some pieces from it.

When someone finds out I’m a wedding photographer, they have a crazy idea what that looks like. Well, they think it looks a lot like this…

I’m not going to lie. When I started dreaming about pursuing this, I thought very similar things.

I tell people over and over again, if you’re serious about making photography your career, you have to be content with spending most of your time behind a computer, not to mention be VERY self-disciplined and self-motivated.

Here’s what it looks a lot more like…

Of course, that is just a rough estimate and varies from person to person. There are days when I feel all I do is book-keeping, editing or emails!

I love this quote at the bottom of the article…

A wedding photographer wears all the business hats:
CEO, advertising exec, HR person, accountant, IT guy, vision-caster, investor, designer, researcher, client-meeter, negotiator, webmaster, marketer, and office cleaner.

Not to mention any other hat outside of his/her career… Wife/Husband, Mom/Dad, Daughter/Son, friend, community volunteer, etc.

Wedding photography is not for the faint of heart, energy, mind, or motivation.

If I wanted an easy job, I would have stuck with retail.
I would have never chosen to be self-employed.
