ask amy
hi, Amy! Love your blog and photos...just a couple of quick questions....how do you find spots for shoots? do you have to ask for permission to shoot in restaurants and such? also, what time of day do you like to shoot? thanks! you're awesome!

My non-wedding shoots are usually 2-3 hours long and I schedule them to either end around sunset or begin around sunrise. I personally loooove sunrise lighting more than sunset. This year I did more sunrise sessions than ever and I loved them so so much! (Plus, in the summer they are 10-20 degrees cooler than sunset sessions!)

Here are a few 2010 sunrise sessions:

Ashley + Andrew
Kamrin + Eric
Cori + Danny
Kari + Marlon
plus a few still in the works…

I scout out locations all the time. I feel everywhere I go, I am subconsciously looking for awesome things. Some locations I have done, I asked for permission ahead of time. Some I didn’t. It just depends.

However, I am one that hates the attitude of some photographers that feel they can climb, disrespect, and do whatever they want with private or sacred property. If I question whether I should do something at all, I’ll always go ask. Usually no one has a problem with it.

But who’s really going to deny a bride and groom?? :)
